SUBtember 2026: When Twitch Subs Are Cheaper — and When They Aren’t
Once a year, subscribing on Twitch costs less — the one moment where asking for subs feels natural rather than pushy. SUBtember 2026 is Twitch’s annual discount on channel subscriptions: viewers pay noticeably less for their first term, while your share is calculated the same way as always. It runs from Friday, August 28, 2026 at 10 AM PT through Thursday, October 1 at the same hour.
How much comes off the price
The discount scales with the length of the term. One-month subs are 25 percent off, three-month subs are also 25 percent off, and six-month subs come in at 30 percent off on web and mobile.
The discount applies to the first term only; after that the sub renews at the regular price. So September doesn’t pay you more per sub — it brings you more subs. October is where you find out how many stayed.
What qualifies, and what doesn’t
Qualifying purchases are new recurring paid subscriptions, Prime or gift subs that convert into paid ones, monthly subs upgraded to a multi-month term, and Tier 1 subs upgraded to Tier 2 or Tier 3.
What does not qualify: subs that simply keep running, subs someone cancels and immediately repurchases, and Twitch Turbo. This is where chat gets confused every year — long-time subscribers see no discount unless they move to a longer term or a higher tier. Say that out loud early and you save yourself the repeat questions.
The bonus gift sub finale
The final week has a promotion of its own. From September 25 through October 1, both at 10 AM PT, Twitch adds to community gift subs: for every five new one-month gift subs bought, one more comes free, in the same tier. A sponsor covers the extra subs, and nothing changes in how the gifter buys them.
The scheduling advice writes itself: a bigger gifting push is worth more to your community in that last week than at the start of the month.
Turn the discount into an occasion
A discount on its own sells nothing. What works is a visible goal and a visible reaction on stream — which is where automation earns its keep. Does my existing subscription get the discount?
Only if something about it changes — moving from a monthly sub to a longer term, or from Tier 1 to Tier 2 or 3. A subscription that just keeps renewing stays at the regular price.
Is it worth cancelling and resubscribing?
No — that case is explicitly excluded. Cancelling and repurchasing during the promotion means paying full price, and it breaks the run of consecutive sub months along the way.
When should I schedule a gifting push?
In the last week of September. Between September 25 and October 1, every five gift subs purchased come with one more for free.
