Razer Acquires StreamElements: What It Means for Streamers
On 31 July 2026, Razer acquired StreamElements — which means one of the most widely used streaming toolkits in the world is now run by a hardware company. Very little changes for your stream this week, but there are two things worth doing anyway. The Razer StreamElements deal is an asset purchase: what changed hands is the platform, the rights and the platform data, not the company that used to sit behind it.
What Razer actually bought
By Razer’s own account, it acquired “substantially all of the assets” used to run StreamElements — explicitly including intellectual property rights, platform data, know-how and business records. The seller was Live Momentum Ltd., the former holding company behind StreamElements.
That is what separates this from an ordinary company takeover: the operator changed, not the shareholder. Your overlays, alerts, chatbot and tipping page keep working exactly as before, but a different company runs them now — a company whose main business is selling hardware and running a store and a creator programme.
What changes for you — and what doesn’t
Most of it stays put for now. StreamElements confirms that login details are unchanged, overlays and settings remain exactly as they are, and the integrations with Twitch, YouTube, Kick and X stay active. Sponsorship campaigns continue as well.
One thing does need action from you: the privacy policy was updated with effect from 1 August 2026 to reflect the new ownership structure. You have to accept it to keep access to the live tools. So if you clicked away a consent dialog in the past couple of weeks without reading it — that was probably this one.
The part that touches your money
The most important item comes with a deadline. Your existing SEPay balance can only be withdrawn until 31 December 2026. And to keep receiving tips, you need to connect a PayPal account to your StreamElements profile.
This is not a reason to panic, but it is not something to leave sitting either. If there is a balance in there, go and get it — deadlines like this rarely get extended. And if you had no idea you had a balance at all, that is exactly why it is worth a look.
The bigger question: who owns your stream tools?
Acquisitions are part of the business, and Razer has credibly committed to keeping StreamElements open to every creator regardless of what hardware is on their desk. Still, it is a good moment for a question streamers rarely ask themselves: how many providers does your stream actually depend on, and what happens when one of them changes direction?
If you would like a different answer to that, ByteMate is one — a Twitch bot with a dashboard that stays deliberately independent: no corporation behind it, no ad funding, operated out of Germany. And it does not come up short on features: commands, alerts, giveaways, subathons, statistics, moderation tools, OBS overlays and donations all live in one dashboard. The side-by-side comparison covers the details — the difference is less about feature count than about who makes the decisions.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to switch tools now?
No. StreamElements keeps running as before, and rushing a migration mid-season gains you nothing. Accept the privacy policy, sort out the payout, and watch how the platform develops over the next few months.
What happens to my SEPay balance?
It stays withdrawable until 31 December 2026. For future tips, connect a PayPal account to your StreamElements profile.
Is my data still safe?
StreamElements states that creator data privacy and security remain a priority and that data is handled in line with applicable privacy laws. Platform data was part of the purchase, though — which is precisely why there is a new privacy policy for you to accept.
How do I get started with ByteMate?
For everything above you only need your StreamElements account. ByteMate is an alternative if you would rather have your stream tools with a small independent provider. The core is free, and you can run it alongside what you already use without cancelling anything.
In short
No reason for drama, but two concrete tasks: accept the updated privacy policy, and claim your SEPay balance before 31 December 2026. Everything else you can simply keep an eye on. What is happening with the ByteMate tools is always visible on the status and changelog page.
